Another Moving Day

Jeff and Pete Move a TV

Today, my friends Stephen and Audrey Fitzpatrick moved into their new home. Naturally, the gang was on hand to help haul boxes and furniture. As usual, the promise of pizza and liquid refreshment was enough motivation to spend a Saturday putting our muscles to work.

One Truck, One Trip?

One Truck, One Trip? Not in this case. Stephen and Audrey's mighty army of possessions required a second trip, even using U-Haul's mightiest loot wagon.

A BRICK!

I was asked to haul bricks, in homage to the time Dustin picked up a box at one of my moves and gasped in surprise, "What's in this box - bricks???" He looked at the box label, only to discover that I'd clearly marked it with the helpful legend:

"BOX OF BRICKS"

"CAUTION - HEAVY"

Fortunately, Stephen's mere trio of bricks was easy enough to handle.

Woods in Wooden Shoes

Today also happened to be my 37th birthday, so I celebrated with an impromptu dance, entitled "Woods in Wooden Shoes," seen here.

The move was accomplished with no injuries, only minor damage to less than half a dozen pieces of furniture, no auto accidents, and less than a dozen gouges gashed into the newly-painted walls. Congratulations on your new home, Stephen and Audrey, and thanks for the birthday cupcake!

The Calculus of Desperation

Sylvia's Gloom

I was trying to take a photo of some boiling spaghetti, and my lens fogged up. So I snapped this shot of Sylvia coming out of the laundry room, and now I have art! I call it..."The Calculus of Desperation." Posted by Picasa

Inside the Bleak House of Blahs: The Ron Room

Allan and Ron in the Ron Room

Located in the northeast corner of the main floor, the Ron Room was home to Ron Briscoe's television, couch, computer (home of the FREEDOM bbs), books and stereo. We spent a lot of time in the Ron Room, playing with Crash Dummies, watching Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and The Next Generation, and talking about our pathetic lives. Doesn't seem so pathetic in retrospect, though, which somehow seems even more pathetic... Posted by Picasa

See Earl Get Hit in the Face with a Pot

For those of you who've always wanted to see me getting hit in the face with a pot, I bring you: a photo of me getting hit in the face with a pot, courtesy of my brother Sean. Probably his revenge for the caterpillar incident. Or the cigarette incident. Or the peppercorn incident. Posted by Picasa

The Bleak House of Blahs

Crass shinglers. The lone toilet in the loft, lurking at the end of a long, empty hallway. A stolen drill. Pasta stink bomb. FREEDOM. The room with bars on the windows, a bare light bulb, and a drain. Calming down the enraged accident instigator with hot chocolate. Crash Dummies, and swordfighting filing cabinets. HOUSE PARTY, the ultimate role playing game. Dirty dishes filling both sinks and spilling out onto the countertop. NECCO WAFER?!? Dangerously low ceilings. Black mold creeping across the floor in the basement shower. Tentacles in the pantry. The Nowhere Men. Hiding in the darkness from trick-or-treaters. Drawerfuls of damaged cans of brown beans. Overdue bills. Mood swings. Disintegrating cars. "Chapter 47 - More of the Same."

This was life in the Bleak House of Blahs. Posted by Picasa

Meanwhile, Back at Susan's Blog

Click on the title of this posting to view a hilarious snapshot of some "Marshmallow Patients" Susan Shyluk had to tend to at a Canadian Labour Congress event. Susan and Jeff are in Mexico right now, the fiends, while I toil like a slave.

Speaking of which...back to work.

Missing

There WAS a post before "Postponed," but it's gone missing. So now "Postponed" makes no sense.

How odd.

Postponed

Well, I picked up the Journal today only to discover that KT's editorial will appear in Monday's paper. So...check it out Monday, if you're interested.

From the Files of Earl's Comic Collection

I own this comic (though I didn't create this scan - I'm not sure where it came from, only that Google Desktop found it on my hard drive). Makes me want to dig it out and find out why Supergirl and Zatanna are so warm for this guy's icy, abominable form. Finding the comic would be quite a job, though, considering that my collection is tucked away in boxes stacked to the ceiling of our storage room. Sigh.

Zatanna's one of my favourite comic book characters, even if her powers seem a little absurd. She casts magic spells by speaking backwards...
