Edith and James in the Rain
Over at JSVB, my friend Jeff has a tradition he calls "Ungood Art Day." Here is some ungood photography I shot back in 2006. I wanted to evoke the tragedy of the doomed love between James Kirk and Edith Keeler by placing their action figures in the rain. But my mini-studio consisted of the kitchen sink, and so instead of the sublime we get the ridiculous. It almost looks as though a prankster has dropped a water balloon on Edith's head, which might have injected a brief comic touch to an otherwise gloomy episode. I suppose Harlan wouldn't have approved, though.

Searching for Helen Noel
Thanks to researcher Kenton over at the Alberta Liberal Caucus for choosing the perfect Secret Santa gift for me: a Captain James T. Kirk Christmas ornament. I placed him in my festive diorama, and he actually comes pretty close to scale. I imagine he's searching for Dr. Helen Noel, a fetching officer famous for her attempt to seduce Kirk at - yes - a Christmas party. (See "Dagger of the Mind" for details.)

From the Archives
I've been scanning old slides and negatives this weekend, and came across this bizarre gem from 1995. I don't remember much about it, except that I posed before this miniature supreme court of accusatory superheroes and asked Jeff Shyluk, "Does this look silly enough?"
"Yep, sure does," he answered, snapping the photo.
