81
We didn't know it at the time, but this was the last time Mom and Sean and Sylvia and I celebrated Dad's birthday--a few days early, on January 27, 2018. We had a nice time, and as I think about Dad on this, what would have been his 81st birthday, I'm grateful for that gathering and all the other times we spent together. I hope he's flying or watching a football game or cursing a blue streak while renovating a room somewhere.

Road Sheep
Here's a photo of a road sheep of some kind that I shot while on my ill-fated trip down the Alaska Highway. While I lost a car in the Yukon, I gained quite a few half-decent photos. I encountered a lot of wildlife on that trip; the buffalo were the most imposing. I didn't really understand how large they were until a few lumbered across the road in front of my car. They probably weighed as much as my vehicle.

Ascension Anticipation
Now this looks interesting. In a few weeks the SyFy channel will premiere Ascension, a new SF miniseries presenting an alternate reality in which the United States launches a secret interstellar voyage. I'm particularly taken by the goofy and yet amazingly cool starship, which features nothing less then a Saturn V rocket as its centrepiece. The show could turn out to be amazingly dumb, but I'm a sucker for both alternate history stories and space opera, so I'll be tuning in.
