Way back in April 1985 Steve Fonyo passed through Edmonton on his "Journey for Lives" across Canada to raise funds for cancer research. He stopped at the Colosseum and for some reason I was there - possibly a school field trip. Using my second camera, a slim Kodak that used the now-obscure 110 film format, I snapped a couple of photos of Fonyo on stage. As might be expected, Fonyo (in white) and the other gentleman on stage are tiny and unrecognisable, and my flash, given the distance, did nothing. The result is a noisy, blurry, artless photo that reveals nothing of the subject or setting. Photo phail!

Rick's Roast
A crucial condo board meeting prevented Sylvia and me from attending tonight's Roast for Rick Miller. It's a great sadness for both of us, as we were looking forward to joining our Alberta Liberal friends in honouring the former MLA and ex-Chief of Staff of the Official Opposition. Rick is, of course, in the midst of a battle with cancer, and the event offered not only moral support to Rick and his family, but financial assistance to the cancer charity Movember. If any of my friends were at the event and snapped photos, I hope you'll send me a couple - Sylvia and I would both love to see how everything went. In the meantime, we'll keep sending our very best hopes and wishes out into the universe for Rick.

Movember Reign
Or, "Movember Rain of Whiskers." Sometimes it's hard to choose a good title...
Sean's mustache continues to crawl steadily downward across his upper lip in the Movember march against prostate cancer. He's raised $700 so far! He's starting to look like the star of a '70's cop show. Visit Sean's donation page here!

Babyface Woods
To raise funds to combat prostate cancer, Sean is participating in Movember. The idea is to shave your facial hair and grow it out through the month of November, raising funds all the while. Sean has shaved his trademark goatee; you can see how he looks without it, above. You can help Sean grow his beard back, and help fight for men's health, by visiting his donation page here.

Sean's Ride to Conquer Cancer
Sean explains the background here, but to make a long story short, Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks back. Fortunately it was caught early and Mom will be okay after some chemo and radiation therapy. Mom's always been in excellent shape and so far she's kicking cancer's butt as if Bruce Lee were taking on the Three Stooges. Of course Dad has been steady as ever in helping her get through this.
In response, Sean has decided to participate in the 200-km Ride to Conquer Cancer. Please visit Sean's personal Ride to Conquer Cancer page if you'd like to donate.

Alberta Government Will Cover Cancer Drug Avastin Starting April 1
Every so often, you win one...this will provide massive relief to Albertans suffering from colorectal cancer. Kudos to the government for doing the right thing.
