So this 28mm scale plastic replica of Captain Kirk's chair was something like $7 on eBay and I just had to have it. I even have a use in mind for it - rather, a couple of uses. I look forward to painting it.
You may be surprised or interested to know that each and every button on Kirk's chair is labelled "Eject Finney".
We saw the real chair in a science-fiction exhibit. It had cigarette, no strike that, phaser burns on the cushion. There were also some full-scale replica captain's chairs where the fans were encouraged to sit. Kirk's was okay, not as comfortable as you'd think but perhaps that's because I've transitioned from Captain Kirk proportions to Admiral Kirk proportions. Picard's chair was excruciating. It was form fitted to Patrick Stewart, and the man has no hips whatsoever. That's why The Next Generation uniforms were one piece: his pants would just keep falling off otherwise.
