Milestone Approaching

I can scarce believe it myself, but in a little over a month My Name is Earl (J. Woods), formerly known as The Bleak House of Blahgs, will be ten years old. Clearly I'll need to do something special for such a momentous occasion, but what? Another name change? A redesign? Some kind of commemorative post? A best-of list? Finishing that short story I promised Jeff? A retrospective?

I know what I should do. I've long threatened to novelize the screenplay of Toilet Chase. But that's a better project for National Novel Writing Month.

Ideas from the peanut gallery gratefully accepted.

How about a video retrospective ("Well, I wouldn't call it a 'clip show' per se, but...") done under the banner of Blazing ENN, assuming of course that Blazing Earl News Network even has a banner, or could be made to have one.

Hmmm. Videos are always fun...

I have a few suggestions:

1) Build some kind of time machine and undo this post temporarily so that I can have content for the actual One Month Until Ten Years Day, which I was planning as a nice suprise for quite a while. Oh, well, I can always draw another unflattering caricature of my brother-in-law instead, always a JSVB staple.

2) Definitely do the retrospective, but do it leading up to The Big Day.

3) Research what other people do for blogs that turn ten.

4) Find that offspring you never knew you had, whose birthday happens to be MNIE(JW) Turns Ten day.

5) Do something very, very special. Take the step to do something you've always wanted to do but never yet have, and then make that effort the subject of the Big Day blog entry. Do something Sylvia and Superman would be proud of.

6) Monetize your blog. We probably won't mind.

My thoughts, anyways. I've been thinking about my 1,000th JSVB post for a while now, and I probably won't hit that until next year. You're way past that marker, so whatever you think up might have to be a lot bigger than that. Good luck! If you need help, I have all kinds of time on my hands.

Hmmm, some possibilities there, Jeff. I think I'm getting closer to the monetizing step, but it's a big psychological hurdle for a variety of reasons. Suggestion five is the most ambitious and the most daunting all at once...but now I have some ideas. Thanks!

With regards to 5, you really should start that novel. You've even tagged your post with your intent to novelize. Raymond Chandler and Ian Fleming both started at around your age, same too Patrick O'Brien, although like you, P'OB hd considerable run-up before he got started.

P'OB would write four hours a day, creating one full page. He had a novel in around a year. IF was more like Ed Wood, in that he could get up to ten pages a day, but his run-up times were more considerable. RC was much slower, maybe a paragraph or two a day.
